Audit a Google Ads account with Claude, from directory install to deliverable

Updated 28 Aug 2026·6 min read

Written by Uptimal, the team that builds and operates Upbuild and runs marketing analytics for multinational clients across the globe. Everything below reflects how the tools actually behave, including the parts the platforms would rather not discuss.

Claude’s version of the Google Ads audit has the shortest path in and the best exit: install is one click from the official connector directory, it works on the Free plan, and the audit can end as an artifact, a formatted document the client can hold, rather than six hundred lines of chat.

The Claude-specific setup

Find Upbuild in the Claude connector directory and click add (or paste the connector URL under Settings, then Connectors); sign in with the Google login that holds your Ads access; done. No Developer mode, no plan requirement on Claude’s side. The detailed walkthrough is in the connection guide, and the broader Claude workflow in the practical guide.

Run the audit as one investigation

Claude is strongest when you brief it like a colleague: "You are auditing this Google Ads account for a new engagement. Work through structure, waste, tracking, creative and trend. Query what you need, keep a running findings list, and ask me before assuming anything about the business." Then let it drive: inventory and settings first, the zero-conversion sweep second, conversion counting and the GA4 delta third, creative fatigue fourth, 13-month context last. Claude’s long context means the full account picture stays in play when it writes conclusions, which is where cross-findings (the wasted terms cluster in the campaign with the stale settings) come from.

End in an artifact

"Compile the audit as a one-page document: three headline numbers, five findings with the query behind each, three prioritized recommendations." Claude builds it as an artifact you refine in place ("make finding two client-safe") and export. For recurring clients, a Project holding your audit brief turns next quarter’s run into one sentence.

What to watch

Claude is cautious by temperament: it will sometimes ask permission mid-audit instead of querying; the brief above ("query what you need") fixes that. Numbers in the artifact should cite their pulls, so ask for the query behind any figure that will face a client. The same audit has a ChatGPT version and a Gemini Enterprise version if your team lives elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude audit my Google Ads account?

Yes, against live data: install Upbuild from the Claude connector directory in one click (custom connectors work on every plan, including Free), sign in with Google, and the audit runs as tool calls against the Ads API.

Does Google Ads access work on the Claude Free plan?

Yes. Claude allows a custom connector on the Free plan, so the read-only Ads connection and the audit below work without a Claude subscription; the connector itself has its own 14-day trial, no card.

What is the best Claude feature for account audits?

Artifacts: ask Claude to maintain the audit as a living document while it queries, and you end the session with a formatted deliverable rather than a scroll of chat, ready to export for the client.
