Written by Uptimal, the team that builds and operates Upbuild and runs marketing analytics for multinational clients across the globe. Everything below reflects how the product actually works, including the parts that are deliberately boring.
Most agency reporting teams have a Supermetrics licence, or had one. It is the incumbent for scheduled pulls of marketing data into spreadsheets, BI tools and warehouses, and it earned that position by working. This comparison is written by the people behind the other side, so it is only fair to say where we would still recommend it. Where we are not sure how Supermetrics behaves today, we say so: check their current plans rather than take our word for it.
What Supermetrics does well
Supermetrics moves data from a wide catalogue of marketing sources into the places reporting already lives: a spreadsheet, a BI tool, a warehouse. You pick a source, a set of fields, a destination and a schedule, and it runs. At the time of writing it is priced by data source and by destination, so the bill grows with the number of platforms and the number of places the data goes; check their current plans for the details.
It still fits in two situations. The first is a data team that wants to own every transformation: raw fields landing in the warehouse, modelled by its own engineers, with Supermetrics as one feed among many. The second is a source Upbuild does not cover. At the time of writing the Supermetrics catalogue reaches beyond ad and analytics platforms into CRM, e-commerce and email tools, and if a client's reporting depends on one of those, that is a reason to keep it. Migrating queries built on its field names over years is also real work, and "it works" is a legitimate reason not to do it.
What AI Data Exports is
AI Data Exports is part of the Upbuild platform. It delivers ready-to-use tables from all your ad and analytics accounts, such as Google Ads, Meta or GA4, to your data warehouse, cloud storage or a spreadsheet, on a schedule, with backfills of history. The difference is not the destination. It is that you set an export up, and change it, by prompting. The platform is priced per organisation (get a demo); connector pricing is on the pricing section.
Where prompting wins for an agency
Take a Monday when a new client, Acme Outdoor, signs. Three ad accounts, a GA4 property, and a clause in the contract that says the client's own warehouse gets campaign data daily, with two years of history. In a configure-it-yourself tool that is a query per source, a schedule per query, a destination per client, and someone's afternoon. In Upbuild the head of reporting writes:
"Every morning at 06:00, campaign level from every Acme Outdoor account into the Acme dataset in their warehouse. Load the last two years first."
The export exists before the kickoff call, the history is loading, and the daily run starts tomorrow.
Backfills are the second difference. Two years of history is a prompt, not a project, and history can be reloaded later by adding a schedule ("on the first of the month, reload the last three months") for the platforms that restate old days.
One export for many client accounts is the third. Instead of one pull per account, one export covers every account you choose for that client and lands them in one table with the account ID and the account name on every row. When the client adds a fourth account in March, you add it to the export by prompting, and it joins the next run. Nobody rebuilds the report.
Dashboards, exports and alerts, built by asking.
Upbuild is an AI platform for marketing data: AI Dashboards, AI Insights, AI Data Exports and AI Alerts, with a read-only MCP server as part of its toolset that brings your accounts into Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot Studio and Gemini Enterprise. Every tool, live data. Free for 14 days on the connector and 7 days on the platform.

Agencies lose people, and people take their setups with them. Every change to an Upbuild export is saved as a numbered version, with who made it and what changed, and any version can be restored. When the account manager who set up the Acme export leaves, the export stays. Everyone signs in as themselves with Google or Microsoft; an admin decides who joins and shares accounts one person and one account at a time; access leaves with the person when they leave; and exports, dashboards, connections and alerts belong to the organisation and keep running when people go. Whether your current setup ties a schedule to the login that created it is worth checking before the next resignation, whichever tool you use.
Governance also covers the accounts themselves. Nothing Upbuild does can change a budget, a campaign, a tag or an audience. The ad platforms are read-only throughout, and the only writes are the exports you schedule yourself, into the table, folder or spreadsheet tab you chose.
Nothing to connect twice
The last difference is the one that changes the week. The accounts connected for the Acme export are the same accounts that feed the client's AI Dashboards, refreshed on their own cadence and opened by the client with a link, the AI Insights chat where the team answers the client's Thursday question, and the AI Alerts that flag a campaign about to spend its month early. One connection, one set of numbers, four places to use them. A pull-and-load tool ends at the destination; what happens to the data afterwards is somebody else's tool.
How to decide
Keep Supermetrics if your data team owns the modelling and wants raw feeds, or if a client depends on a source Upbuild does not cover. Choose AI Data Exports if the reporting team sets up and changes the exports itself, if clients arrive with many accounts and want history, if the same data has to feed dashboards, chat and alerts, or if the last handover hurt. Many agencies run both for a while: the old pipelines keep running, new clients start by prompting, and the licence question answers itself at renewal. The wider landscape is in Supermetrics alternatives and Supermetrics vs Funnel.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI Data Exports a drop-in replacement for Supermetrics?
For scheduled tables from ad and analytics accounts into a warehouse, cloud storage or a spreadsheet, yes, and you set them up by prompting. For sources outside ad and analytics platforms, such as CRM or e-commerce tools, Supermetrics goes further at the time of writing, so check their current catalogue against your clients' needs.
How does the pricing compare?
Supermetrics is priced by data source and destination at the time of writing; check their current plans. The Upbuild platform is priced per organisation, and connector pricing for the assistants is on the pricing section.
Can an agency run both at the same time?
Yes. Existing Supermetrics pulls keep running while new clients are set up by prompting in Upbuild, and the two never touch each other's tables. Many agencies decide at renewal, once they can see both in use.
What happens to a client's exports when the person who set them up leaves?
The exports stay. They belong to the organisation, not to a login. An admin removes the person, their access ends, and the exports keep running with their numbered versions intact for whoever takes over.
