Written by Uptimal, the team that builds and operates Upbuild and runs marketing analytics for multinational clients across the globe. Everything below reflects how the connector actually behaves in production.
GA4 in Claude means the Data API answers you directly: no Explorations detour, no CSV middleman. Setup is the standard connector flow, and your existing property permissions do the rest.
The Claude path
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it Upbuild and paste https://connector.upbuild.app/mcp. Claude will hand you to Google’s consent screen; approve with the account that can read the platform in question, and the connector appears in your chat’s tools.
Property access is the whole permission model
Whatever properties your Google account can view, Claude can query; nothing extra to configure, no service accounts or JSON key files. If you manage many properties, Claude lists them and you pick, per question or for the session.
First questions
- “Sessions and key events by default channel group, last 28 days vs previous.”
- “Which landing pages lost engagement rate month over month?”
- “Purchase funnel by device; where does mobile leak?”
Two GA4 realities to know: the Data API has property quotas (a normal session fits comfortably; the quota guide has numbers), and thresholding can hide small segments, which the connector flags rather than papers over. Full platform picture in the GA4 MCP guide.

What GA4 permission level is needed?
Viewer on the property is enough for every read the connector performs.
Can Claude see historical data?
Yes, anything the Data API can report for your property’s retention window, which for most setups covers the ranges marketers actually query.
